How To Finally Get Out Of Pain And Regain Strength, Flexibility And Confidence In Your Movement After Surgery

Using extrinsic targets to encourage movement at the right ankle following surgery

The road back to recovery following surgery can be long and getting your rehab right is essential for a full recovery.

One of the main problems with typical post-surgery rehab is that it doesn’t take you through the full rehab cycle.

It’s common after post-surgery rehab to be part of the way back to full fitness but still be experiencing a limited range of motion, lack of strength and pain performing certain movements.

This is where we come in…

How We Can Help

post injury rehab specialists
We bridge the gap between physio and full fitness

As movement specialists we bridge the gap between physio and full fitness with our scientific and personal approach.

Our research-driven process is specifically designed to help you get your movement back in as short a time as possible.

Our approach uses a unique combination of coaching, skill development, pain-science and fatigue management to help you re-discover your movement, get away from pain and regain your confidence moving, training and performing.

Our Approach

Task-driven movement can be a great strategy for injury rehab
Holding a previously unavailable hip position by distracting the brain!

Getting your movement back following surgery is often not as straight forward as performing stretches and strengthening exercises.

Your movement needs to be assessed as a whole and multiple factors need to be considered, like your biology (physical condition, structure etc) and your psychology (fear, avoidance, beliefs etc)

A comprehensive rehab program considers ALL of the factors that could be causing you pain.

How It Works

Lower Back Rehab
Driving movement into the lumbar spine from the legs

The first stage is an assessment, where we look at your movement in-depth and find out exactly where you are with your rehab – what you have done so far, what has worked, what hasn’t worked etc, where you are now and where you want to be.

If you currently have a physio we will also work alongside them to ensure you’re doing everything required to maximise your recovery.

We will help you:

  • Understand exactly where your movement problems lie
  • Improve your strength, balance, co-ordination and range of motion
  • Discover the right rehab exercises for YOU
  • Increase your confidence in your movement
  • Put a plan together to get back to full fitness

Our approach has enabled us to help people get back to fitness after a wide variety of surgeries, including:

  • ACL reconstruction
  • Gastrocnemius release
  • ‘Flat Foot’ reconstruction
  • Lower back surgery
  • Meniscus repair and meniscectomy
  • Quadriceps reattachment

…and many more.

After working with us you’ll have learned exactly how your body moves, regained lost movement or learned new ways of moving and perhaps most importantly regained confidence when moving.

    Testimonials

    Quad Surgery Rehab

“After a hiking accident and a severe quad tendon tear requiring re-attachment with surgery I was out of physio rehab but there was a gap in my capacity and confidence to exercise, being unable to return to full activity.

I was recommended Pete through a friend who had managed to return to sports post ankle operation.

Through a mix of face to face and online sessions my movement was assessed and specific exercises were designed to safely return strength and balance.

Isolated work progressively improved my confidence and control until specific sporting movements were introduced.

It took several months but the progress was fairly consistent and I was able to run short distances and cycle for several hours.

Now after 6 months I have returned to pre- injury levels of endurance activity, cycled to Tenby (100+miles) and now running 5k around my PB time, pain free.

I’d thoroughly recommend Pete to anyone wanting to return to sport post injury, he’s very patient and his skill in observing your movement and then tailoring how to work on weaknesses is brilliant.”

    Post-Op Knee Rehab

I found Pete after struggling with knee rehab following a meniscectomy and micro-fracture procedure.

It felt like no matter how much physio I did, it wasn’t making any difference to my recovery.

Pete took time to understand what movements were contributing to my pain and analysed my movement patterns to identify how I could move out of pain.

There was no blanket “you just need to strengthen x muscles”, which was the only approach I’d been offered previously.

He really knows his stuff and will continually adapt your programme to ensure changing movement patterns are incorporated into ongoing progress and improvement.

My only regret is not finding Pete sooner!”

    Shoulder Surgery Rehab

“6 months on from a shoulder operation in 2022 and having completed the prescribed physiotherapy I was still having issues with mobility and strength through my shoulder.

It was causing problems with training, interruptions to my sleep and starting to affect my mental health due to not being able to do what I wanted due to restrictions of movement and range.

I was taking painkillers to help with sleeping, seeing chiropractors and getting sports massages which worked in the short term but never really dealt with the underlying issue.

I first got in touch with Pete after seeing a post on Facebook from one of his clients who had a similar issue and reported good success and improvement after working with him.

Throughout the course of sessions I have noticed improvements week on week. My range of motion has improved significantly and I have been able to start added weight, albeit slowly, to my weekly training regime.

My sleep has improved and I am no longer waking up through the night with a dead shoulder. As a result of the improvements I am able to train regularly without adverse effects which is helping me mentally and physically.”

    Hip Replacement Rehab

“In the short space of time that Pete has been working with me, only a matter of six weeks, I have been delighted and impressed by the progress and improvement he has been able to help me achieve post hip-operation.

His approach is clear, evidence-based and systematic, but also feels personal and tailored to my individual needs (and weaknesses.)

I really like Pete’s positive approach and mindset and can honestly say I look forward to my sessions with him. As a ‘middle-aged, non-performance athlete’, I feel I receive the same care and focus as any top-notch sportsperson, and the goal is always what will improve my daily life in tangible, achievable ways.

    Highly recommend him to anyone.

    Post-Hip Surgery Rehabilitation

Fantastic bespoke rehabilitation sessions post hip operation for arthritis.

I have gone from believing I would never be able to ride my horse again without significant pain to real optimism that I WILL be able to ride pain free again!

I can’t tell you how amazing that feels. Thanks so much Pete!”
